Helping Children in Pain Find Their Power Peace Purpose Through Breathing & Martial Arts
Free Evidence-Based Martial Arts Therapy For Children in Pain

Pain is a message you do not have to listen to. At Kids Kicking Cancer Canada, our mission is to ease the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually, and emotionally through the power of breathing, relaxation techniques, and traditional martial arts. We teach children in pain to harness their power, find purpose, and push away the message of pain.

How the Program Works

Through our Heroes Circle program, we work with any child in pain, as well as their siblings, offering one-on-one training and group classes in hospitals and communities around the world. There is never a cost to the families we serve. We also offer digital instruction from specially trained black belt martial artists to children aged 3 to 20 with conditions such as:
- Cancer
- Epilepsy
- Autism
- Cerebral Palsy
- Cognitive disorders
- Mental health conditions
- Neurological conditions
- And more
During our martial arts therapy classes, specially trained black belt martial artists guide students through sessions of non-contact martial arts movements combined with controlled breathing and meditation. Children learn how to push away pain and feel empowered while gaining a sense of Power, Peace, and Purpose. Students also have the opportunity to take part in a sharing circle where they can share their feelings and how they are using their teachings in real-life situations.

“I loved Kids Kicking Cancer’s Heroes Circle from my very first class! Through the program, I have learned techniques, like the Breath Brake®, to calm myself down when I am feeling scared or anxious. I breathe in the light and blow out the darkness. I have learned karate and how to better control my body and movements. And the best part is the relationships I have developed with the Senseis and other students. This program allows us to come together and celebrate what makes us ‘us.’ It is a place where everyone is accepted for who they are, no matter what limitations they are living with.”

The Physical and Emotional Impact of Our Work

The martial arts therapy techniques based in breathing and visualization have been evidenced to profoundly lower the pain of children. This reduces a child’s anxiety, pain, and discomfort during difficult clinic and hospital procedures along with stress they face in everyday life.
But it’s not just about lowering pain. Members of our Heroes Circle gain confidence and empowerment, allowing them to take control over the chaos of their lives, take on the world, and teach others to do the same.
